My letter to the BBC Trust

Here's what I wrote to the BBC Trust...

Dear BBC Trust,

I'm writing with regard to the Strategic Review consultation, and its proposals to cut the Asian Network, 6Music and large parts of the BBC web site.

Please, please, do not allow these cuts to go through. These three services are just the kind of unique thing that we can't find anywhere else; they entertain, they inform, and they educate. They do not appeal to the lowest common denominator.

In our household:

- I listen to 6Music almost every day, for hours at a time. I work from home, by myself, and hugely enjoy 6Music's cheerful presenters and fantastic, eclectic mix of music. No other station in the UK comes anywhere near providing what 6Music provides.

- My wife loves Asian music, and loves to put the Asian Network on in the evenings. She and our son have fun bopping round the kitchen to Bollywood tunes that we'd never find on any commercial radio station.

- My 7-year-old son gets huge enjoyment and value from the BBC web site. I often suggest it as a source of information for his homework projects. All of us are constantly amazed and impressed at the depth and variety of content it provides.

Please ensure that these cuts do not go through as proposed. I am certain that there are other ways the BBC could reduce its costs and its footprint, and I implore you to find them, and not destroy these wonderful and unique services that my family get so much from.

Yours sincerely

Giles Turnbull

Peter Gabriel's embedded music player at The Guardian

Nice little widget, does the job, lets me listen to his new album of covers without any adverts. Lovely.

Only one little problem: Peter Gabriel does not own PG.com. No. If you want his web site, you have to go to petergabriel.com
